The 10 Best Places in the World to Photograph

Whether nature, people or cities, the most beautiful photography has creative composition that amazes. To seek out visual drama, places with spectacular color, extremes of weather and light then you may want to go further than your home town. Here are ten best places across the world to photograph:

Namibia, Africa

You can fly along the beautiful coast and not see a single vehicle track for an hour and snap some shots. Hire a pick-up and self-drive your safari to Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei for amazing landscape photographs. I would suggest driving on the emptiest part of the coast, from Lüderitz to Walvis Bay.

Mongolia, Asia

Travelling within Mongolia is a challenge, but well worth it. The the country's horse races, camel trekking, Mongolian wrestling and hunting with golden eagles make for amazing photographs. The best way to see it all is to hire a good guide who will lead you to people and places that are truly authentic.

Ladakh, India

Ladakh, the Kingdom of Monasteries, is the former crossroads for Chinese/Indian trade routes. Monasteries are elevated on mountain-tops so bring a wide-angle lens. Ladakh also features enough moon-like desert landscapes, glaciated mountains, and river valleys for beautiful landscape photographs. Add in the prayer flags and Himalayan villagers harvesting grain and you will have photographs that capture the essence of Ladakh.

For wildlife photographers driven by concern for endangered species, match the forces of nature with extreme adventure with a trip to the Arctic. There are sometimes nineteen hours of light and with the right clothes you can keep taking photographs. Polar bears and walruses are fascinating creatures, though you need patience for them to reveal themselves. Be a witness with your beautiful photography that if we don’t change our lifestyle, they could soon disappear.

New Zealand

Underwater photography in New Zealand requires super-wide to macro lenses so you can photograph everything from whales and seals to nudibranchs and blennies. If you're on the southern island, pack or hire a drysuit or a wetsuit for the north island. New Zealand's landscapes are beautiful too.

Umbria, Italy

In addition to the beautiful landscapes, the small towns and historic sites are less likely to be as crowded as Tuscany. All the easier to lose yourself in the cobbled streets and medieval architecture of towns such as Spello and Orvieto. Photograph architectural details close up; fortress hill towns in the distance; poppies blooming between vineyards and still-life photographs of regional food and flowers.

Baja, Mexico

The famous architects of Baja in Mexico work in color, just like photographers. You don't have to go far to find color, hotels are sometimes full of amazing colors, so don't overlook where you're staying.

Pantanal, Brazil

The wildlife of the Amazon can all be found in Pantanal, Brazil. Parrots, jaguars, giant anteaters are out in the open. If you want to photograph bird-life, the best time to visit is the dry season when they congregate here. If you love wildlife photography, this is the best place to be.

French Polynesia

You'll be guaranteed to take beautiful photographs on these breathtaking islands. Capturing the full essence of it's beauty is your challenge. The islands also provide a stark reminder of the devastation caused by early explorers. Slow to the rhythm of the islands and the islanders. Sharpen your sense and be open to take in all that you see and experience.

New Guinea

One of the best places in the world to capture a culture so far removed from our own is New Guinea. Tread lightly culturally, emotionally and spiritually with the people you wish to photograph. The quality of your portrait will be in proportion to the quality of the relationship you have with the person you're with. Consider what you can bring to the occasion, rather than what you can take out, tocreate your best photograph.
